Former BC Quarterback Davis Will Attend Community College

His career at Boston College began with a bang — a game-winning touchdown strike against Wake Forest to keep the Eagles in contention for the ACC title — and it ended with an anticlimactic offseason whimper.

After a partial season as BC's starting quarterback, Dominique Davis announced his plans to transfer in June after he was slapped with a suspension for academic reasons. On Sunday, he told ESPN.com that he plans to spend one season playing at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas before taking another swing at a Division I program.

The 19-year-old Florida native became a starter when fifth-year senior Chris Crane went down with a season-ending collarbone injury on Nov. 22. He led the Eagles to victory in the final two games of the regular season before they suffered a brutal 30-12 loss to Virginia Tech in the ACC championship game.

The offensively-challenged Davis struggled most profoundly during the Music City Bowl on Dec. 31, when he threw for two touchdowns — plus two interceptions — and only 190 yards against a 6-6 Vanderbilt squad.

BC had hoped that with heightened offseason training and more game experience, Davis would bloom into a dual-threat option quarterback, but those hopes were dashed when he announced his plans to transfer. The Eagles are now left without a quarterback who has collegiate-game experience.

"I feel terrible about leaving because of the adversity that has hit the team with Mark Herzlich [who is currently battling cancer] and then my situation," he told ESPN.com. "I had called a team meeting the day everything happened and told the team that I was transferring. The players supported my situation about transferring and gave me their best wishes."
