According to multiple reports including the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald, free agent guard-forward Marquis Daniels has committed to signing on with the Celtics.
The 6-foot-6, 200-pound veteran is entering his seventh season in the NBA, having played the last three years in Indiana. Last season, Daniels averaged a career-high 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 54 contests for the Pacers.
Daniels is going to sign with the Celtics either for the $1.9 million biannual exception or in a sign-and-trade deal with Indiana, that would reportedly send Brian Scalabrine and Tony Allen to the Pacers. The Celtics and Pacers are still hashing out those details.
The former Auburn baller came into the league in 2003 as an undrafted rookie with the Dallas Mavericks. The often injured Daniels played in just 54 games last season after a wrist injury cut his campaign short in mid-March. In June, the Pacers declined his option for next season that would have paid him $7.3 million.
Should the C's sign Daniels, he will likely serve as a backup for both Ray Allen and Paul Pierce.
