In a minor league deal, the Red Sox have reportedly made a trade for outfielder Joey Gathright, according to MASNsports.com.

The Red Sox will send a player to be named later or cash to the Orioles in exchange for the 28-year-old, according to the report.

In 80 games with Triple-A Norfolk, Gathright batted .386 with 11 doubles, two triples, 20 RBIs and 24 stolen bases.

Gathright may be remembered by Red Sox fans as the recipient of a 2006 slap/punch from Julian Tavarez in a spring training game after a play at home plate. He’s also known for his ability to leap over cars.

In his major league career with the Rays, Royals and Cubs, Gathright is a .262 hitter with one home run and 96 RBIs in parts of six seasons.
