The 'Mayor' of Dana-Farber He’s neither a doctor nor a nurse. He has yet to be a donor, celebrity or Jimmy Fund employee. R.J. Agostinelli is, however, one of the most popular figures inside the Jimmy Fund Clinic’s walls and he’s just 11-years-old.

Because of his love for others and his open personality, Agostinelli is referred to as the ‘Mayor’ of Dana-Farber. Every three weeks he makes the rounds at the clinic to crack the occasional joke, check up on the staff and offer kind words to fellow cancer patients.

In 2008, R.J. was diagnosed with Leukemia. While the diagnosis was “devastating” according to him, it certainly brought out the most in the young Sox fan with the constant smile and strong faith.

“Believe in yourself,” he said when asked how he plans to beat the cancer. “I believe in myself.”

Don’t let the nickname fool you. When R.J. grows up, a political position isn’t among his wishlist — he wants to be a doctor so he can continue to help people.
