Mike Lowell Receives Hip Injection
Third baseman Mike Lowell is expected to miss a couple of days after undergoing an injection into his right hip on Monday morning.

The injection is the second of the season for the veteran who missed the 2008 ALCS with the hip injury before having it surgically repaired this past offseason.

Last week in Kansas City, Lowell approached manager Terry Francona to discuss the best plan for his ailing hip heading into the postseason. The Sox can clinch a spot in October with a win over the Blue Jays and a Rangers loss on Monday.

"We agreed if he got an injection today and then sits for a couple of days, he could come back and get some at-bats [before the postseason]," Francona told projo.com. "We'll try to treat him as responsible as we can this week."

Lowell missed the end of June and the first half of July after getting his hip drained and injected with his first cortisone shot of the season.

The 35-year-old is batting .290 with 17 homer and 75 RBIs through 117 games this season, his fourth with the Red Sox.
