Boston's Stable Bench Enticed Rasheed Wallace to Join Celtics The passionate fans, the Big Three and Doc Rivers, the ultimate players' coach. These three factors would make any free agent yearn to join the Celtics, but what Rasheed Wallace liked most about this team was something a little different.

“I think what solidified my decision to come here was the bench,” Wallace told The Boston Globe, discussing a group that also includes key players Marquis Daniels, Eddie House and Glen Davis.

After years of being a go-to starter, Wallace has accepted the role of bench player. It's no surprise given that the reserves are a key component of this Celtics club. They're a group the team is counting on to give them the extra edge come playoff time.

“The bench players that were already here knew the system," added Wallace. "You look at those guys. You can’t get no better than that. It’s great for me. I don’t have to be the one to start the game off. Kendrick [Perkins] and Kevin [Garnett] start things off, and then I get to come in with the guys off the bench and make our push.”

Such a scenario sounds like the ideal situation for any veteran, and for Sheed, it's no different. The 14-year vet has seen the highest of highs with the Pistons, helping them win a title just five years ago. The former Tar Heel is running out of time to capture another ring — and that's where the Celtics come in.

“At this point in my career, yeah,” he said. “I want to win, and this is a great place for that. We’ve got a lot of young, hungry guys and great veterans, and this group has already won a championship. They know what it takes, and they want to go back.”
