Daniel Paille Already Earning Points With the Bruins' Offense
It's been a weird week for the Bruins.
First, Chuck Kobasew got traded. Then Milan Lucic went down with a broken finger, closely followed by last year's leading scorer, Marc Savard, who is out with a broken foot.
To compensate, the Bruins made a move. Enter Daniel Paille.
Boston acquired the Sabres import in exchange for a pair of draft picks on Tuesday. The 25-year-old has averaged 21 points in 75 games over the past two seasons with Buffalo and quickly contributed to a lackluster Bruins offense on Wednesday, registering an assist on Steve Begin's game-winning goal against Nashville.
"I just saw the opportunity with the open puck there -- their defenseman tried to reverse it -- and luckily the ref got in the way for us and Begin was there and wrapped the puck around the net," Paille told NESN's Naoko Funayama after the game. "My first instinct was just to get it on-net right away, but it got a lucky bounce off a player's stick and went right to Begin."
Paille's Bruins career certainly got off to an encouraging start, but he knows he has more to prove.
"[I was] a little bit sloppy, I think, in the first [period]," he said. "But I think as the game went on, I picked it up a little bit and felt a lot more comfortable out there, especially playing with the two guys I played with all game [Begin and Byron Bitz], and I was really happy with [their] solid effort throughout the night."
