Kevin Faulk, Patriots Not Worrying About Loss to Denver

Kevin Faulk The Patriots may have lost on the road again, but they're not wasting any time dwelling on the past, according to running back Kevin Faulk.

What made Sunday's 20-17 loss to Denver even more painful was the fact that it came in overtime. The Patriots lost the coin toss, the defense couldn't stop Kyle Orton or the Broncos offense and Denver walked off the field with a victory before New England even got a chance to retaliate.

Are overtime rules fair?

"Different people have different opinions," Faulk told NESN's Kathryn Tappen on Tuesday's edition of SportsDesk. "At the same time, it's the rule, so you have to deal with it and move on. At that point in the game, you always want to get the chance to retaliate, but at the same time, it's the rule. You can't do anything about it."

There were plenty of unpleasant components of Sunday's loss: The fact that it came in overtime, the fact that the Patriots held a healthy lead at the end of the first half and the fact that it came against former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

Did the fact that McDaniels beat his former pupils make the loss even more bitter?

"Not really -- it hurt because it was an AFC loss," Faulk said. "What happened last year -- when people ask us how we went 11-5 and didn't make the playoffs -- that's one of the reasons why. We lost to too many AFC opponents who were ranked higher than us."

It would be easy to blame the loss on the fact that McDaniels knows the Patriots' offense inside and out, but Faulk isn't stooping to that level. He knows that the blame for the loss falls squarely on the shoulders of those in the Patriots locker room.

"In the end it came down to guys making plays, and they made more plays than us in the second half," Faulk said. "That's why they were victorious."
