The Countdown Is On to Extend Rajon Rondo's Contract Throughout the offseason, it became increasingly uncertain whether or not the Celtics would extend Rajon Rondo's contract. Ten days from now, we'll have a definitive answer.

The point guard seemed to be in talks with the Celtics at one point this summer until general manager Danny Ainge told WEEI in a few choice words that Rondo had some growing up to do. After that, all talks came to a standstill and the two sides came to a ceasefire.

Now, Boston has until Oct. 31 to come to an agreement on a contract extension, according to Boston.com. If no agreement is reached, he will become a restricted free agent in July.

On Tuesday night, the guard expressed doubt as to whether he'd be able to come to terms with the Celtics prior to the deadline.

"I have no idea whether we'll get something done," he told ESPN's Chris Broussard. "It's not something I'm worried about. It's just not a big deal right now. Of course, I'd like to get it done, but if it doesn't happen, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it."

At least the contract talks aren't interfering with business on the court. In fact, a lack of an extension could end up working in Rondo's favor this year: It could motivate him to carry the C's to another title.

"My agent's got a certain number in mind and if they don't reach that, we'll just wait," he said. "I feel like if we win another title, obviously that helps my chances [of getting more money]."
