Cubs Deny Milton Bradley-for-Vernon Wells Trade Rumor
The ticking time bomb otherwise known as former Cubs outfielder Milton Bradley won't be coming to an American League East field near you, according to sources close to the Chicago franchise.
ESPN is reporting that the Cubs are denying the trade rumor that involves shipping Bradley to Toronto in exchange for Vernon Wells. Bradley was suspended and asked by Cubs management to head home early toward the end of the 2009 season because of some off-field antics.
The outfielder has two years and $21.5 million remaining on his contract. In 124 games with the Cubs this summer, the 31-year-old hit .257 with 12 homers and 40 RBIs.
Wells hit .260 with 15 homers and 66 RBIs in 158 games for the Jays in his 10th career season -- all of which he has spent in Toronto. The center fielder has five years and $98 million left on his contract, including $23 million in each of his last two years.
