Towers, who spent 14 seasons with the Padres, is eyeing a successful American League team.
"I'd like to align myself with a winning organization, someone I trust, someone I like working with — to be honest, preferably an American League team, just to become more familiar with that league," Towers told the Web site.
Towers is believed to be a good fit in Boston as he has previously worked for Red Sox president Larry Lucchino with the Padres. It was in San Diego that Towers helped mold current Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein. A report surfaced earlier this offseason that the club would be offering a job to Towers as well as former Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi.
However, before Red Sox fans can pencil in Towers in as a welcome addition to the front office, there's a good chance that Towers can also join the dark side. He and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman have a very good relationship.
"[Cashman] is certainly a good friend of mine, somebody I've got a great deal of respect for," Towers said. "There is nothing done by any means. But if Brian Cashman had interest in my services, he's somebody I'd listen to."
