Joe Girardi Helps Car Crash Victim Hours After World Series Win
Remember that time A-Rod allegedly saved a kid from being hit by a truck on Newbury Street? His manager may have just tried to one-up him.
The Journal News reports that hours after leading the Yankees to their 27th World Series title, Joe Girardi pulled over on the Cross County Parkway to help a woman who had lost control of her car and hit a wall.
"The guy wins the World Series, what does he do? He stops to help," said Westchester County police officer Kathleen Cristiano. "It was totally surreal."
Or an act of common decency.
The newspaper said Girardi had just passed through a DUI checkpoint when a 911 call came in reporting the accident. When the police arrived on the scene, the woman had already managed to get out of her wrecked car and Girardi had stopped to offer his assistance.
"He was jumping up and down, trying to flag me down," Cristiano told the paper. "You don't expect him standing by a car accident trying to help."
What's more, Girardi had to cross the parkway on foot to reach the accident.
"He could've gotten killed," said Sgt. Thomas McGurn. "Traffic goes by at 80 mph."
