Oklahoma's Bob Stoops Rumored as Replacement for Charlie Weis at Notre Dame
After a 27-22 loss to No. 8 Pittsburgh over the weekend, the rumor mill in South Bend, Ind., has been revving on all cylinders as head coach Charlie Weis appears to be coaching his final games for the Fighting Irish.
The Chicago Sun Times is reporting that a couple of coaches are being considered as potential replacements to take his seat for 2010, including Oklahoma's Bob Stoops and Iowa's Kirk Ferentz.
Notre Dame is now 6-4 and after its loss on Saturday night, has dropped nine of 10 games -- including eight in a row -- to top 10 teams since 2006, Weis' second year at the helm.
The former Patriots coordinator is 35-25 as the Irish head coach, including a 19-6 record in his first two seasons, although many of those players were the recruits of former Notre Dame coach Tyrone Willingham. Weis is 1-2 in bowl games, including a 49-21 win over Hawaii in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl last season -- a game that Weis coached from the press box due to knee injuries.
