Although Mother Nature was able to delay him for one day due to inclement weather, there was no stopping Walpole senior Ryan Izzo, who was able to break the high school state football scoring record during Sunday's game against Natick.
Izzo eclipsed previous record-holder Nathan Sherr from Austin Prep, who notched 682 career points from 2003-2006. According to Boston.com, the 5-foot-9 tailback broke the record with 8:33 to go in the first half thanks to a rushing touchdown. Also the team's kicker, Izzo added two extra points to give him 686 career points in his high school career, which began on Thanksgiving Day his freshman season.
The new record holder will attend UMass-Amherst next year on a lacrosse scholarship.
