Milan Lucic was just as happy as his teammates after a practice at the Fenway Park rink on Thursday afternoon.

But when a reporter brought up his high ankle sprain — which has kept him out of game action since Nov. 25 — the smile on his face dimmed a bit as Lucic announced that it is highly unlikely he will be on the ice with his teammates on Friday when they take on the Flyers in the 2010 Winter Classic.

"I would say doubtful, but you never know," Lucic said of his chances of playing. "With an injury like this, you need to be careful and you can’t push it. Obviously I want to be part of this but I can’t rush it."

Lucic did say the ankle has improved and he isn’t hesitating as much on the ice.

"It’s getting better every day, and we'll see," he said. "You know, when we scrimmaged out there, I wasn't really thinking about it or worried about it for once. As days go on and I practice more, I don’t hesitate as much."
