The Boston Red Sox acquired right-handed pitcher Boof Bonser from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for a player to be named later, Theo Epstein announced on Thursday.

Bonser was designated for assignment by the Twins on Tuesday. The 28-year-old missed the entire 2009 season after undergoing arthoscopic surgery to repair partial tears to his labrum and rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder.

In his career, Bonser owns an 18-25 record and a 5.12 ERA, striking out 317 batters while walking 125. He has one career postseason appearance, a two-run, six-inning start against the Oakland A's in the 2006 ALDS. He also has two career starts and three appearances overall at Fenway Park, posting a 2-0 record with a 5.93 ERA.

Kelsie Smith of TwinCities.com reported via Twitter that the Red Sox will be sending a Single-A or Double-A player to Minnesota.
