As the Red Sox reportedly nabbed John Lackey and Mike Cameron from the free-agent pool on Monday, you didn’t think the Yankees would stand by idly, did you?

The Bombers have contacted Jason Bay‘s representatives, according to the Boston Herald. Bay is expected to make a final decision in the next couple of days, and according to the report, he has not been told by the Red Sox that he is out of their plans.

The Yankees have already acquired an outfielder this season in Curtis Granderson, and they are reportedly in talks with Johnny Damon.

The other teams that have reportedly shown interest in Bay are the Mets, Angels and Mariners, though the Angels signed Hideki Matsui on Monday and the Mariners are reportedly close to acquiring Cliff Lee. That likely leaves the two New York teams in a potential bidding war for the 31-year-old Bay.
