John Henry and Wife Linda Pizzuti Announce Red Sox Scholarship Program in New Hampshire
John Henry, the principal owner of the Boston Red Sox, and his wife, Linda Pizzuti, announced the establishment of a new Red Sox scholarship program in New Hampshire on Saturday, Jan. 16 alongside governor John Lynch at the New Hampshire State House.
The event was to let New Hampshire high school students know about the program and encourage them to apply. To be eligible for the scholarships, students from 10 select public high schools must:
- Have strong academic standing
- Be eligible for financial aid
- Demonstrate a dedication to community service
“It’s important that we continue work to make higher education more affordable and accessible for more of our young people,” Gov. Lynch said. “I want to thank John Henry and the Red Sox organization for its commitment to New Hampshire and its people.”
The awards will be for $1,000 each and will be presented to students from Pinkerton Academy in Derry, Manchester Central High School, Salem High School, Nashua High School South, Concord High School, Londonderry High School, Keene High School, Dover High School, Spaulding High School and Portsmouth High School.
“The Red Sox know loyalty is a two-way street and New Hampshire fans have given us their unwavering support over decades,” said Henry. “We are pleased to honor talented Granite State students who not only work hard in the classroom but also in their community to open doors of opportunity for themselves and for others.”
