Seahawks Fire Jim Mora, Reportedly Set Sights on Pete Carroll Just one season into his job as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, Jim Mora has been fired.

The team announced the firing late in the day Friday.

That's only half the story, though, as ESPN.com reports that the team is targeting USC head coach Pete Carroll to be Mora's replacement.

"Carroll did not return messages, but a league source said Carroll is interested in the job and is trying to persuade Trojans offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates to join him in Seattle, as opposed to Bates pursuing the same position with the Chicago Bears," the ESPN.com report said.

A source close to Carroll also told ESPN.com: "You're about to see a big headline that shakes up the major college football world."

For the Seahawks, Mora becomes the first coach in franchise history to be fired after just one season.

"We've made a tough decision today," Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke said in a release. "It became apparent after conducting an extensive internal audit that a new direction was needed to provide an opportunity for the organization to be successful. Today’s decision, while difficult, is part of the process in building a franchise with a new vision in 2010.”

Mora took over after Mike Holmgren left Seattle last year for a year away from football. Holmgren was recently hired by the Cleveland Browns as team president.

The Seahawks went 5-11 this season and failed to find much consistency. They exploded for a 41-0 win over Jacksonville in Week 6, only to lose the following week 27-3 at home to Arizona, and they ended the season on a four-game losing streak.
