Former Red Sox postseason hero Bobby Kielty is hoping to pitch his way back into the big leagues.
The outfielder is working on his windup with ambitions to return to the MLB as a relief pitcher, tweets Tim Dierkes.
Kielty last played pro ball in October of 2007 when he was a bench player for the Red Sox championship team. His last at-bat was a memorable one as he belted a solo homer off Colorado's Brian Feuntes to lead off the eighth inning of Game 4 of the World Series. That tater proved to be the eventual game-winner as the Rockies plated two runs in the bottom half of the inning to bring it within one before the Red Sox would go on to win it 4-3 in the series-clincher.
The 33-year-old veteran threw bullpen sessions for the Mets last season and he told MLBtraderumors.com that his ultimate goal is to be a right-handed bat off the bench and a trusted option to eat up some innings in relief. Dierkes reports that Kielty has a "pretty good" slider.
