A familiar New England team could be spending Thanksgiving with millions of families this year.

According to mlive.com, the Lions’ annual Thanksgiving Day game will feature a matchup against an AFC East opponent, either the Patriots or Jets.

The NFL’s rotating schedule means AFC East teams will face NFC North opponents in inter-conference play next season. In addition to facing the Lions, both teams will battle the Bears, Packers and Vikings.

New England and New York played the Lions in home games four years ago. Each AFC East team defeated Detroit by seven points, the Patriots winning 28-21 and the Jets 31-24.

The NFL may showcase the Jets-Lions matchup because it features a battle between the first two quarterbacks selected in the 2009 NFL draft. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was taken No. 1 overall, while the Jets selected Mark Sanchez four picks later.

The official announcement will come this April when the NFL releases its 2010 regular-season schedule. Regardless of the matchup, CBS will televise the Thanksgiving Day game early in the day, CBS Sports reports.
