James Murphy: Tuukka Rask Should Be the Guy in Net Moving Forward
The Bruins' 1-0 overtime win at New Jersey on Tuesday night was a very encouraging sign as the playoffs draw closer -- but given Boston's penchant for winning one then losing one, Thursday's matchup against lowly Florida is anything but a given.
Add the fact that the Bruins are playing at the TD Garden, where they've been anything but automatic in the new year, and the game just looks scarier.
But given Tuukka Rask's play of late, the Bruins' luck could finally be changing -- as long as he stays in net as opposed to veteran Tim Thomas, according to NESN insider James Murphy.
"I don't think Tim Thomas should play another game this season, or in the playoffs, should they make the playoffs," Murphy told NESN's Cole Wright on Wednesday's edition of SportsDesk. "And that's not a knock on Tim Thomas. The facts are there -- the stats are right there, you can't argue that -- and look at the way the team plays in front of [Rask]. ... They play with a lot of confidence [in front of him], and that confidence comes from the confidence Tuukka Rask is exuding out there. He's spreading confidence throughout the lineup right now."
