BOSTON — Andrew Ference is out of the Bruins lineup again on Monday, as he will miss his second straight game with his nagging groin injury that has already kept him out of the lineup for nine games in the first half of March.

Bruins head coach Claude Julien told the media on Monday that Ference was being examined this morning. Julien didn't rule out the possibility that Ference may need to have surgery — originally planned for the offseason — earlier than expected.

"I don't know, I can't answer that and I don't have the details right now," Julien said. "He's being examined as we speak, and that's why, so we can have a clear indication of where he's at."

Ference recently signed a new three-year deal worth $6.75 million with the Bruins, and in GM Peter Chiarelli's conference call announcing the signing, both Ference and Chiarelli said they felt confident the surgery could wait until the offseason. Apparently, the injury has gotten worse.

The Edmonton, Alberta native has eight assists and no goals in 51 games played this season.
