Report: Adalius Thomas Wants to Play for Jets Next Season Rex Ryan coached Adalius Thomas with the Ravens, and if the Patriots release the veteran linebacker, the two may reunite in New York.

According to ESPN.com, Thomas would be interested in joining the Jets if he's let go by the Patriots.

"I was hanging with Adalius Thomas for Super Bowl weekend," Jets linebacker Bart Scott told ESPN.com. "We're buddies from back in the day. He made it public that he's expressed an interest in joining Rex. I think some of his better years of his career have been a part of the Ravens defense and under Rex Ryan's tutelage. It'll be exciting."

Thomas has been a disappointment in New England. Since signing a five-year, $35 million deal three years ago, he has recorded just 14 1/2 sacks. The two-time Pro Bowler criticized Bill Belichick this past season, and was sent home for being late for a team meeting in early December.

At the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis on Saturday, Ryan denied rumors that Thomas could join the Jets but recognized that having players he's coached in the past is beneficial.

"Any coach that gets a job will want to bring people in that he's familiar with. These are guys that the rest of the team is going to look at," Ryan told ESPN.com. "You better make sure you bring the right guys in from a work-ethic standpoint, from the type of study habits and all that. Their teammates are going to be watching them."

The Patriots may wait until the start of free agency to release Thomas. The team would suffer a $8.8 million salary-cap hit if they released the veteran linebacker before March 5, the start of the new NFL calendar year.
