UConn Coach Jim Calhoun Agrees to Four-Year Extension Connecticut men's basketball coach Jim Calhoun has agreed to a four-year extension with the school, according to ESPN.com.

The Hall of Fame coach has led UConn to two national championships and six Big East championships in his 24 seasons at the helm. Calhoun's current contract expires on June 30, but he is expected to sign the extension within the next few weeks, the Web site reports.

Calhoun and the Huskies went just 17-15 (7-11 in conference) this season and lost to St. John's on Tuesday in the opening round of the Big East tournament. They'll likely end up in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), marking just the fifth time since 1990 that UConn has missed the NCAA tourney.

Calhoun missed seven games earlier this season with an undisclosed medical condition, leading fans and media alike to wonder about his future as a coach. But he put those concerns to rest by returning with the same courtside passion he's always had.

Prior to taking over at UConn in 1986, Calhoun spent 14 seasons as the bench boss at Northeastern.
