Chris Berman Freaks Out a Bit During NFL Draft You’d think that by now, Chris Berman would have learned his lesson.

The lesson of always — always — keeping cool when in front of a television camera. A couple of years ago, videos were released on the Internet, in which the ESPN host lost his marbles with the cameras rolling. And America laughed.

Those segments, though, were shot during breaks, when Berman was not on live TV during one of the biggest sporting events of the year. The other night, however, was a different story.

Apparently, there was some miscommunication, as the ESPN on-camera crew looked like they expected a commercial break. Jon Gruden, Mel Kiper and Steve Young were comparing notes when the group of five appeared on America’s TV sets. An ESPN veteran of 30 years (and with the ink still wet on his new contract), Berman decided the best course of action would be to signal to the technical crew that either the video or audio should be cut, make a disgusted face, realize he’s on TV and there’s nothing he can do about it, then get back to his job.

It’s not the biggest deal, but sometimes, it’s the little things that are the most humorous.

Quote of the day

“I’m sure if you look at the way the series has gone, we’ll be blamed for starting it. We’re used to it. It’s not a big deal. I know that I saw [Zdeno] Chara get slashed behind the leg. It must be our fault, I’m sure. This is playoff intensity. This is the way it goes. You turn the page and move on.”
–Bruins coach Claude Julien, participating in some gamesmanship after Boston lost Game 5 in Buffalo. After Game 4, Sabres coach Lindy Ruff made similar remarks about the officials.

Comment of the day

There are many unwritten rules in baseball, but should they be written down somewhere, just to avoid confusion? One NESN.com reader has a new one.

“Here is an unwritten rule… When noticing a really hot looking gal sitting field level, share the info with your teammates. That way, they too can enjoy themselves.”
