Nomar Garciaparra to Be Honored by Red Sox at Fenway Park on May 5 The Red Sox honored Nomar Garciaparra this spring, allowing him to retire in a Sox uniform and throw out the first pitch of a spring training game. On May 5, Nomar will be given his proper sendoff at Fenway Park.

The team will honor the former shortstop before Wednesday night's game against the Angels. Garciaparra, members of his family and members of Red Sox ownership and front office will participate in the ceremonies.

Garciaparra's career was once destined for the Hall of Fame, but injuries derailed those plans. Since 2001, he's had just four healthy seasons, missing 80 games or more in each of the other six. He retired with a career average of .313. He's since joined ESPN as a baseball analyst.
