Olympic Gold Medalist Hannah Kearney Throws Out First Pitch at Red Sox-Yankees Game
Olympic gold medalist Hannah Kearney threw out the first pitch prior to Tuesday's Red Sox-Yankees game at Fenway Park.
Kearney, who hails from Norwich, Vt., won the first United States gold in the 2010 Vancouver Games in mogul skiing.
Kearney is a big Red Sox fan, going so far as to wear a Jacoby Ellsbury T-shirt under her uniform during the opening ceremonies. She also brought a collection of Red Sox ticket stubs to Canada for good luck.
Following her gold-medal performance, Red Sox chairman Tom Werner phoned Kearney and extended an invitation to throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to a Red Sox game.
She was able to make her first pitch to Ellsbury, who presented her with a ball and bat afterward.
Ellsbury said he got several text messages about his jersey being represented in Vancouver with Kearney, saying that he hadn't received that many texts since Boston's 2007 World Series victory.
