The Patriots may bring in "The Kentucky Hammer" to improve their special teams next season.

According to WEEI.com citing a league source, New England was scheduled to work out UConn punter Desi Cullen on Thursday in Hartford.

The Patriots are looking at punters in this month's draft to replace Chris Hanson, who is an unrestricted free agent. Hanson averaged 39.7 yards per punt last season, his lowest average in any full NFL season in his career.

Cullen, also known as "The Kentucky Hammer," handled both punting and kickoff duties during his collegiate career. The Louisville, Ky. native averaged more than 41 yards per punt in three seasons with the Huskies.

The 49ers and Eagles have also hosted Cullen for private workouts.
