Jacoby Ellsbury Has Setback With Lingering Soreness From Rib Fractures Even though Mike Cameron and Jacoby Ellsbury were activated from the disabled list in the past week, the two outfielders aren't quite over their ailments.

Cameron, battling a sports hernia, will not be available every day in the early going as he works to acclimate himself to an injury that will eventually require surgery to fix. Until then, he will be able to play through it but may need days off here and there.

Ellsbury is in a similar predicament, as the hairline fractures in his ribs will take a long time to heal. He was feeling good prior to Tuesday's game, but was a late scratch after taking batting practice and experiencing soreness in his side. It is unknown whether the Red Sox will place Ellsbury back on the disabled list. Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe says Boston certainly won't wait eight days to make that decision, like it did when Ellsbury suffered the original injury on April 11.

The other starting outfielder, J.D. Drew, has been playing through injuries, as his presence was needed in the absence of Ellsbury and Cameron. However, he'll take a seat on Wednesday to work through his various ailments, most notably a sore hip flexor, hamstring and calf.

The hits keep on coming, as catcher Victor Martinez will miss his second straight game Wednesday after a foul ball hit his big toe on Monday night, causing a deep bone bruise.

All four are considered day-to-day.

Meanwhile, Josh Beckett is still on the disabled list after experiencing back soreness. He is eligible to come off on June 3, and the Red Sox plan to pitch him that day, as Boston will host Oakland in a rare weekday day game with a 1:35 p.m. start time.

Jed Lowrie is still recuperating from his bout with mononucleosis. He is gaining weight and strength, beginning baseball-related activities and remains on track to begin playing in early June.

Boof Bonser continues to take his turn in the Triple-A Pawtucket rotation after setbacks with his groin and surgically-repaired right elbow. The team still has a few weeks remaining to decide whether Bonser can help the major league club. If he doesn't earn a spot in the bullpen or rotation, he would have to clear waivers to continue pitching for the Red Sox.
