Paul Daley landed a devastating blow on his opponent Josh Koscheck, at UFC 113 in Montreal on Saturday night. Unfortunately, it was after the final bell rang and it will cost Daley his UFC career.
Daley punched Koscheck as he walked away with his hands in the air moments after the bell. UFC president Dana White announced that the vicious act cost Daley his job.
"He's done. I don't give a [expletive] if he's the best 170-pounder in the world, he'll never come back here again," White said in the postfight press conference. "He'll never come back. I'm probably the most lenient guy in sports and this is probably one of the most lenient organizations. You know we're all human, we all make mistakes, things happen. There's no excuse for that. These guys are professional athletes. You don't ever hit a guy blatantly after the bell like that whether you're frustrated or not."
Daley, a British fighter, claims he didn't hear the bell. White, a former Boston resident and Manchester, Conn. native, isn't buying it.
"When I went in there and talked to him after the fight he said 'I didn't hear the bell.' That's what he said to me. That won't be tolerated."
Koscheck, a four-time Division I All-American wrestler, won in a unanimous decision (30-27) and has earned the right to challenge welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre for the title.
