Robert Kraft Confident That Tom Brady, Logan Mankins Will Reach Long-Term Resolutions

FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots have officially hit the practice field this week, but there are still two front-office issues that are looming overhead.

Quarterback Tom Brady is entering the final season of his six-year, $60 million contract and it would be in New England's best interest to extend Brady's deal before the start of the 2010 season. In actuality, it would be an awful sign if the greatest player in franchise history doesn’t reach an extension before the regular season, because thoughts of him entering the open market are frightening. Brady isn’t publicly demanding a new contract or anything, but the organization can't let this topic drag out through the season.

Left guard Logan Mankins, on the other hand, is unhappy with his contract situation and it's unclear when or if he'll report to Gillette Stadium. The restricted free agent has been tendered a one-year, $3.3 million contract, but Mankins has yet to sign it because he wants a long-term deal.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft said Thursday he believed both situations will eventually reach a resolution.

"Those are two young men that will be on this team," Kraft said, "and two important people for us in the future here."
