FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said Thursday morning that oft-injured linebacker Shawn Crable failed his physical, which led to Wednesday's release.

Crable, a third-round pick out of Michigan in 2008, never played a down for the Patriots after suffering through a series of injuries during his tenure in New England. Belichick said Crable "isn’t ready to participate in camp."

"Right now, I don’t think he's there," Belichick said before the Patriots officially kicked off training camp at Gillette Stadium.

Belichick wouldn’t rule out a chance for Crable to return to the team if he proved he was physically ready.
