Don Orsillo, Jerry Remy Always Inspired at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Video)

Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo With the ninth annual Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon approaching, NESN Red Sox television commentators Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy made a special visit to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The duo tried to brighten the days of cancer patients spending time at the hospital, but both Don and Jerry made it abundantly clear that their days are brightened every single day by the staff at Dana-Farber.

"The thing that's so impressive about this place to me is how difficult some of the situations are with the patients, but how comfortable they are here," Remy said. "Everybody you talk to, they're feeling bad, because things are bad in a lot of cases, but they are getting better."

"Every time you come here, you realize how insignificant your daily life is and how important it is to be healthy," Orsillo added. "You see these people and how far they come and that's the thing that shocks me so much. We just met a guy who drives here for nine hours once a week from Pennsylvania to come here. And why? Because this is the greatest place on earth if you have cancer."

Remy added that in talking to patients, they all stressed to him that the care could not be better.

"All they have to say is positive things about the whole staff -- from the nurses to the doctors to everyone who cares for them," he said. "It's so important for cancer patients because it seems like a helpless road at times, but when you have that positive reinforcement you have here day in and day- ut, I think it makes a big difference in their outlook on their result."
