Harvard Pitcher Max Perlman Delivers Stellar Performance in Cape League All-Star Game Max Perlman
usually pitches for Harvard University.

But on Wednesday night, the 6-foot-7 right-hander took the long journey across the Mass. Ave. bridge to pitch at Fenway Park for the Cape Cod League All-Star Game.

Perlman, who pitches for Wareham in the Cape League this summer, is 3-1 with a 1.65 ERA and 36 strikeouts in six starts this year. And even though his real home park is in Cambridge, Perlman relishes in the chance to pitch in Fenway.

"Playing in Fenway is always really cool," Perlman said. "I've played in the [Baseball] Beanpot before, but that doesn't really compare to this."

Perlman says that there is an added intensity to playing in the Cape Cod League.

"Playing for Harvard is not always as competitive as the Cape League, because it's the Ivy League. In the Cape, you're playing against the best college players in the nation."

Perlman is one of the most highly-touted hurlers in the Ivy League, and due to a rough season in which he posted a 9.60 ERA in five appearances for Harvard, he's happy to be back out there firing.

"I'm hoping to not embarrass myself out there," Perlman said before the game. "I'm not going to blow anybody away, but I think I have good command so hopefully I'll do alright."

He did nothing of the sort. Perlman came into the game in the third inning and retired three batters in a row, making the droves of Harvard fans that came out to Fenway pleased to see their pitcher survive the best players college has to offer.

"My dad and my uncle came all the way from Minnesota for this, and a bunch of my friends from school are going to come down. Everyone's having a blast."
