Jason Varitek No Stranger to Dealing With Deadline Deals

One of the most important trades in the history of the Red Sox came when the Sox were able to acquire Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Heathcliff Slocumb prior to the 1997 trade deadline.
Although the trade put Varitek in an organization in which he is now the leader, the change of scenery was something that was difficult to adjust to.
Now, with his role in the Red Sox clubhouse as a leader and knowing what it's like to be part of a trade, Varitek's experiences prove quite valuable for his teammates this time of year.
