Anthony Ranaudo dominated in the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer, but his time with the Brewster Whitecaps has come to an end.

According to The College Baseball Blog, Ranaudo is finished pitching on the Cape and will head home to New Jersey. Originally joining the Cape league to help work his way back from injury, Ranaudo had high hopes for his summer.

“The strides I made at the end of the season were significant. I feel like I’m pitching the best I pitched for a long time,” he told WEEI after the draft. “Hopefully I can go to the Cape, prove myself more and show the baseball world that I’m still the same pitcher and still the same talent that I was entering the season and all of last year.”

Coming into the 2010 season as the highest rated college baseball player, Ranaudo struggled with injuries and ended up going 5-3 with a 7.32 ERA in 15 appearances, including 11 starts.

In five starts with the Whitecaps, Ranaudo went a perfect 3-0. He held opponents to a .217 batting average, throwing 31 strikeouts and walking only eight in 29 2/3 innings.

Drafted by the Red Sox with the 39th overall pick, Ranaudo must now decide whether to sign with the Red Sox or return to LSU for his senior season.
