Boston Lawyer Harry Manion Believes Roger Clemens Will Serve Jail Time

Roger Clemens officially entered his plea on Monday afternoon, standing behind the claim that he is not guilty of lying to Congress about using performance-enhancing drugs during his MLB career.

Federal prosecutors say they don't believe Clemens, and now a 6-9 month criminal discovery process will take place. Clemens' defense team will be seeking evidence from the government, looking for anything that will be used against him in trial.

Founding partner of Boston law firm Cooley Manion Jones LLP, Harry Manion, stopped in for Monday night's edition of NESN Daily to provide insight on the upcoming court proceedings. Manion believes Clemens will head to trial in 2011. There, Clemens will serve in front of 12 jury members who will determine his fate.

Manion believes the federal prosecutors have a very strong case against Clemens, with the physical evidence from former trainer Brian McNamee, and the testimony from former teammate Andy Pettitte. When asked by Daily co-host Jade McCarthy if he thought Clemens would do jail time, Manion did not hesitate.

"I do," he said. "I think he will be convicted. I think he falsely testified to Congress under oath, I think he made false statements and I think he brought it entirely upon himself."
