Carlos Delgado recorded his first professional hit since May 10, 2009 on Wednesday night in his second start for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox.
The 38-year-old went 2-for-4 with a strikeout in the 5-1 loss to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. One of his hits came on a hard-hit ball to first, where the first baseman made a diving attempt but could not make the play. His other hit came via a bloop single. He lined out to second base to end the top of the seventh inning.
The hits are the first positive signs for Delgado, who went hitless in his first game on Monday, but there is obviously a long road ahead for Delgado to join the major league roster.
