Boston Celtics fans dodged a major bullet earlier this summer.

Danny Ainge knew that the team needed to find stopgaps in the interior while Kendrick Perkins sits out, but his desperation reached some pretty crazy heights.

Apparently, the Celtics considered signing draft-bust extraordinaire Kwame Brown, reports the Charlotte Observer. He even worked out for the Celtics in early July. The former number-one pick averaged 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 points last year for the Pistons, his fourth stop after stints in Washington, Los Angeles, and Memphis. He shot an unthinkable 34 percent from the free-throw line.

Instead, the Celtics signed Shaquille O'Neal, and Brown is heading to the Charlotte Bobcats to be reunited with Michael Jordan.

“Most people would think (Brown) would run away from going back to play for Michael again. That’s not the case. Kwame welcomes it,” agent Mark Bartlestein said.

The Bobcats are reportedly as excited about the signing as Brown is for the opportunity.

They spent a lot of time recruiting him,” said Bartlestein.

Brown, a 10-year veteran, is still just 28 years old. He has averaged 6.7 points-per-game for his career.

He will earn $1.3 million next season, a number similar to O'Neal's upcoming salary.
