The Jets may have 99 problems, but according to Joe Namath, quarterback Mark Sanchez isn't one of them.
The Jets legend made some critical comments of the team on Twitter during Monday night's 10-9 loss to the Ravens, citing a "disappointing lack of discipline" and calling Dustin Keller's failure to pick up a first down on fourth-and-9 "disgusting."
On Tuesday night, he spoke in a bit more depth with the New York Post and despite offering pointers to the young Sanchez on Hard Knocks, Namath said the quarterback is not the problem.
"This is not all on him," Namath told the Post regarding Sanchez and his 74 passing yards. "Basically, he's taught not to turn the ball over. Mark has been schooled not to lose the game. Our defense is gonna win it for us. We're not gonna lose many games because of our defense."
True to quarterback form, Namath saw the abysmal passing game as a result of poor play from the wide receivers.
"I don't consider [Jerricho] Cotchery or [Braylon] Edwards deep threats," he told the Post. "[Edwards] can't catch the ball, for one thing — or rarely does. He has as many drops as he does catches."
Namath also told the Post that he's most concerned about the offensive line and that another loss could be in the cards this Sunday, when the Patriots visit New Meadowlands Stadium.
"This Sunday doesn't look good for the home team," he said.
