Mike Singletary Has Nowhere to Hide After Calling Out Drew Brees, Saints Watch out Drew Brees. The 49ers will stop you.

Despite Brees completing an astonishing 70 percent of his passes last season and throwing over 5,000 yards the season before that, Mike Singletary will not give the man any credit.

Singletary  is one of the fieriest men to ever play football, and he brings that passion to coaching. But the 49ers coach let his emotions get the best of him when he vehemently told a San Francisco radio host that "we will not try to stop Drew Brees. We will stop Drew Brees. Next question."

After the host then asked how the 49ers would try to beat the Saints' defense, Singletary added even more affirmation, saying, “We will not try to move the ball against the New Orleans defense. We will move the ball and we will score."

Singletary was a bit testy during the interview because he was previously asked questions about a Yahoo article claiming that the 49ers' offensive coordinator had trouble relaying plays to Alex Smith in San Francisco’s 31-6 loss to Seattle in the season opener. Singletary’s frustrations indicate that the 49ers actually have been having some communications issues, but regardless, nothing should excuse his delusions of grandeur while talking about the Saints.

The 49ers stand a chance against the Saints if they quickly fix their Week 1 problems, but after getting blown out by the Seahawks, now is not the time to be making bold claims. This is not the Jets' saying they'll beat the Patriots after a one-point loss to a very good Ravens team. This is far worse. The 49ers lost by 25 points to the Seahawks, which is flat-out embarrassing.

Singletary has no basis for running his mouth. There's nothing wrong with confidence, but making statements that are nearly impossible to back up will only hurt the 49ers. Even if the 49ers play a perfect game and beat the Saints, Brees will have at least some success, so Singletary pretty much is guaranteed to be wrong.

Singletary really has nothing to gain by talking a big game. A 49ers upset win would do more for his reputation as a coach than talking on a radio show ever could, and if the 49ers lose, he's not only going to look like a fool, his job status may start to be questioned.

Singletary thanked the Seahawks for whooping the 49ers in Week 1 because it served as a wake-up call. Niners fans should be praying that the team doesn't have to lose to the Saints in order for Singletary to receive a wake-up call.
