For the fourth consecutive year, the Philadelphia Phillies are headed to the postseason.
The Phillies had to put their celebration on hold after losing to the Mets 7-3 at home on Sunday, but clinched a playoff berth once the Braves and Padres lost as well.
The Phillies have not yet officially won the NL East, but with just six games remaining, their magic number is only one. They began September trailing Atlanta by three games, but now lead the slumping Braves by six games in what was once a hotly contested division.
Philadelphia becomes the third team in the majors to clinch a playoff berth, following the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central and the Texas Rangers in the AL West.
At 93-63, the Phillies boast the National League’s best record, and — thanks to the first NL All-Star game victory since 1996 — stand to gain home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
The Phillies will head to Washington for a three game series against the Nationals before ending their season with a three game contest in Atlanta.
The first two NLDS games will take place on Oct. 6 and 7.
