The Hartford Wolf Pack have gone on their last hunt.

According to a Hartford Courant source, the AHL franchise will be changing its name to the Connecticut Whale. The New York Rangers affiliate is expected to announce the change at 5 p.m. on Monday at the XL Center Atrium.

Howard Baldwin, CEO of Baldwin Entertainment Group and owner of the former NHL team the Hartford Whalers, will take control of business operations of the team.

“Fans have always referred to the Hartford Whalers as the ‘The Whale,’ so it’s a very familiar name,” said the Courant’s unnamed source.

Baldwin hopes that by gaining support for the Whale, he can eventually succeed in his long-term goal of bringing an NHL team back to Hartford.

The team will still be affiliated with the Rangers.
