The Celtics weren't even through their media day and first full day of training camp before controversy struck.

It didn't come from one of the "Big Three." It didn't come from Shaquille O'Neal. It also didn't come from enigmatic point guard Rajon Rondo, oft-troubled Delonte West or injured center Kendrick Perkins.

It came from Glen Davis and Doc Rivers.

Davis, who saw the Celtics bring in a number of big men this offseason, is unsure of what his role will be, so he used a session with the media on Monday to state that he would like to know what his role is.

"It’s difficult because as a player you kind of don’t understand where they’re going or what they’re doing," Big Baby told reporters on Monday at Celtics media day. "No matter what I do, I can play great, it’s still not enough."

Obviously, Rivers heard Baby loud and clear, and he had his own message for the forward on Tuesday on the first day of Celtics camp.

"I'm not even worried about Glen Davis," Rivers quipped Tuesday, according to the Boston Herald. "I think he's living up to his [nickname of Big Baby] again. Somebody just told me, and I'm not that concerned. If Baby doesn't know his role by now, he's going to be sitting down a lot. I just leave it simple. I move on."

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge was a little bit more open to discussing Davis' situation.

"As far as his role, I think it's a compliment to Glen that sometimes he plays inside, sometimes he plays outside," Ainge said. "I mean, [Shaquille O'Neal] knows his role because that's what he's always done. Jermaine [O'Neal] and [Garnett] and Glen are guys that sometimes roll, sometimes pop, sometimes play inside, sometimes play outside.

"That's the greatness of those kind of guys. I think Glen's strength is his versatility."
