Texas Rangers’ Bengie Molina Will Likely Get World Series Ring No Matter Which Team Wins

Bengie Molina may be the luckiest player in the 2010 World Series – considering he will likely get a championship ring no matter which team wins the series.

The Rangers catcher was traded by the Giants to the Rangers in June, after after phenom Buster Posey was brought up from the minors. Molina had played for the Giants since 2007.

Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum has credited Molina for a large portion of his success.

"He's definitely molded me into a better pitcher," Lincecum told MLB.com on Wednesday. "He's the one calling the pitches and I'm the one agreeing, and obviously I get the last say and everything, but if it hadn't been for him reading all the batters, knowing how the batters swing, he's a seasoned vet that knows a lot about every single guy that comes up."

Molina wouldn’t be the first player to be given a ring from a team he no longer plays for. After the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004, they gave a ring to long-time shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, who they had traded in July of that season.

Molina had hoped he’d be facing his previous team in the World Series.

"I don't really care who we play," Molina told MLB.com. "But I'll tell you, the Giants, I wish they could win, because I have a lot of friends and guys that I love over there. We were like brothers, so I wish them the best."

Molina is considering retirement after this season and said that getting a ring would be a “happy note” to end his career on.
