A lot has been made recently about the safety of NFL players and what the league can do to limit the head injuries being suffered by its players across the league.

One cautionary tale on the dangers of head injuries can be found by talking with former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon, which is exactly what the Chicago Tribune did recently.

At a reunion for the Super Bowl XX champion Bears, McMahon admitted to strong memory loss in the days following his playing career and admitted that it continues to bother him today.

"My memory's pretty much gone," he said. "There are a lot of times when I walk into a room and forget why I walked in there. I'm going through some studies right now and I am going to do a brain scan. It's unfortunate what the game does to you."

Despite the physical toll the game took and continues to take on the former quarterback, he insists that league is becoming too soft and has gone out of its way to fine players for simply playing the game.

"It's unfortunate what the game does to you," he said, but added, "Now with the rule the changes, I think it's ruining the game.

"It's a contact sport and these guys are getting fined for legal hits and I think it's ridiculous," he explained. "This is the nature of the game, when you play a game like this with guys this back and fast, unfortunately, guys are going to get hurt. We're all willing to take that risk. It beats the hell out of a regular job."
