Larry Lucchino Tells Red Sox Nation That Ownership Is 'Not Afraid to Go After Free Agents'

Red Sox Nation is clamoring for some exciting offseason news, and as MLB Hot Stove season kicks into high gear, Sox fans are hoping the next big trade or acquisition will benefit their team.

Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino stopped in during Red Sox Hot Stove Live to address the questions Red Sox fans have about next year, and assured them that the Red Sox' ownership team is doing everything in their power to make improvements during the offseason.

While fans and media alike are hoping for a "big splash," Lucchino told NESN's Tom Caron that sometimes avoiding those deals (like trading for Derek Jeter) can be even harder than pulling out the checkbook.

"Part of the goal for baseball executives is to be strong enough to resist the temptation created by fan furor or media frenzy. I think we have, in Theo Epstein and our baseball operations department, some level-headed people who have been around the block a few times. We are not going to be propelled into action over something like a media frenzy."
