Damien Comolli asserted on Tuesday that while the team will take the “long-term” approach to building a squad that he and John Henry delineated on Monday, Liverpool could still make splashes in the January market.

Shortly thereafter, reports of the team being poised to acquire Argentine-Paraguyan striker Lucas Barrios surfaced.

According to GiveMeFootball.com, Paraguyan sources are claiming that Roy Hodgson is prepared to offer Borussia Dortmund either Ryan Babel or Milan Jovanovic and cash for the $19-million (12-million pound) striker.

Barrios is a physically imposing forward of the sort suited to pair well with Fernando Torres in a traditional 4-4-2.  The 26-year-old’s goal rate in Germany has been outstanding, netting 26 times in 45 appearances.

AC Milan is also reported to be interested in the rising star.
