Fan Forum: Will the Philadelphia 76ers Make the Playoffs This Season? It's a fairly accurate prediction when you say that the 76ers won't be making a run toward the NBA Finals this season. However, they could have a shot at the playoffs come spring.

If the season ended today, the Philly squad would be just one game away from the 8th playoff seed. While that doesn't mean much in December, the young crop of up-and-comers are generating some excitement in the City of Brotherly Love.

So will Philadelphia make it to the Eastern Conference playoffs this season?

It would be easy to write Philadelphia off as a no-show come playoff season. They haven't won a playoff series since 2003, when they were led by then-superstar Allen Iverson, but they did see back-to-back appearances in 2008 and 2009.

Their team may be young, but where they lack in inexperience, they make up for in energy. The Sixers are currently riding a two-game win streak heading into Thursday's matchup with the Celtics, led by two youngsters in Jodie Meeks and Thaddeus Young. Meeks nailed six threes in the first quarter against the Bobcats on Saturday, and posted a career-high in points with 26 to lead Philly at home.

Jrue Holiday leads the corps of rising stars, as the 20-year-old guard continues to impress with his fluidity at the point. Averaging 13.4 points and 7.0 assists per game, Holiday is already drawing comparisons with Celtics point guard, Rajon Rondo.

However, Sixers fans may want to chalk this season up as a building year, and look forward to the future with their young nucleus. The Eastern Conference is stacked with talented teams at the top, and even the middle of the race will be a close one.

Jumping over teams like Toronto and Charlotte shouldn't be a problem if their young talent continues to correct the early-season mistakes and the core veterans remain healthy and productive.
